First of all, I want to send you all my best wishes for this holiday season and for 2017. It’s been a strange year, full of highs and lows. I know 2016 feels like the worst year ever, but I still hope you were able to find some sparks of light and love in your life. I don’t want to get too political or too preachy right now, so I’ll keep it at this: try to love a little harder, next year, and if you can’t change the whole world at once, at least try to make YOUR little world a better place. Oh, and have compassion, please, and try to place yourselves in the shoes of others some times. That’s all I’m going to say about that! I’ve taken a little break from the blog/insta over the weekend, but now I’m back, baby!
Statement lovers unite
If you’re not completely new here, you probably know: I’m a statement lover. I’m not afraid to be bold, not in speech nor in dressing, and that’s just a part of who I am. Do I sometimes look back on the past and regret the things I have said or worn? Absolutely. But at least I know that it felt right in that time and place, and I’m not about to apologize for it. Everybody makes mistakes, everybody has those days (cue this fire Hannah Montana track, waddup childhood reference), but the key is to pat your past self on the back for at least trying, and for daring to be true to who you were at that time. So yes, I love a good statement piece, an item that transforms your outfit from basic to extra in less than a heartbeat. I live for those special items that make people look twice, and I think statement pieces are quite underrated nowadays. Seriously, do you guys know how uplifting it can be to look in the mirror right before you’re about to walk out, to see yourself, and to KNOW that you’re going to be slaying at least one existence today? Everybody tends to go for neutral colours and outfits as minimalistic as their instagram feed, but I say: more is more some times. Just have fun with it, try it, experiment with it, and maybe you’ll turn out to love what you see!
When jewellery becomes art
On to the star of the show, the reason why you are here, probably: these earrings. Talking ’bout a statement piece, right? You’ll probably believe me when I say my jaw dropped when I saw these babies on display at the latest Press Days. They’re gold, completely baroque over the top, and bold and intricate at the same time. Does that say enough? When I heard they were handmade by Sébastien Vandekerckhove, a Belgian jewellery designer, I knew I wanted to feature these on my blog. Seriously you guys, his work feels more like art than anything else. Of course, these earrings aren’t really a day-to-day wearable piece, but Sébastien does have a more casual line as well, that is just as pretty. The amount of thought and craftmanship that goes into his designs is just insane, and that shows. I will feature some of his more wearable pieces in an upcoming post, so stay tuned for that!
For the outfit, I knew I wanted to create a contrast. I wanted the spotlight to be on the earrings (well, there’s really no other option), so paired with an all black outfit and a dark background, these babies really stand out. Together with the bare face, I believe this is what we call a #LOOK. I love how these pics turned out, feeling majestic as fuck even though my nipples were out and they came peeking through the holes of my sweater. Also: this was shot about a week ago, and let me tell you: this outfit was not weather appropriate. I felt like my fingers and my nipples were about to fall off, but you know what they say: beauty is pain! And to be honest, when I see the final result: totally #worthit.
